Support Programs
We recognize that many women who are losing their hair are undergoing emotional stress. Consequently, we make every effort to provide a supportive, non-threatening environment. Many of our staff, including founder Kathy Walsh and her daughter Nikki Walsh, have personally experienced their own hair loss. As a result, they are uniquely equipped on an emotional level to help our clients.
Still another way that PK Walsh addresses the needs of our clients is through our innovative sHAIRing™ program.
With a primary focus on education, the program offers opportunities to meet with other women with hair loss to discuss their experiences, thoughts and ideas. The emphasis is on solutions within a safe, reassuring environment.
The sHAIRing™ activities are planned by a steering committee of women with hair loss and facilitated by PK Walsh staff. To date, activities have included:
| • | all-day workshops to assist clients in styling and caring for hair-replacement pieces |
| • | practical fashion and corrective makeup tips to complement hair replacements from an internationally acclaimed makeup artist |
| • | a presentation by a psychiatric nurse on body image and sexuality issues as they relate to hair loss |
| • | fitness and image consulting |
An additional feature to our sHAIRing™ program is a one-to-one, mentor-type support system in which clients are, if they so desire, paired individually with women who have learned how to cope with emotional difficulties precipitated by their hair loss.
Generally there is no charge to participate in any of the sHAIRing™ activities. If you would like more information about attending the program and/or becoming a volunteer, please call us at (800) 624-4335. You may also e-mail us.

Good Morning, My name is Jeanna (43),and have within the past 1-2 years been experiencing hair loss. It finally dawned on my this past August. I quickly realized that women are suffering in silence about this condition. Through many hours, days, weeks, and many nights of research, have found your web site. Your approach to women with this condition is above and beyond. I would like to thank you for all you do. I know that you not only touch womens lives around you, but, as I am an example, you touch so many women lives that are to far to visit your wonderful salon.
I am a client of Genes in Madison, WI, whom is also a transitions member. He has been great. I am currently using rogaine in the am, follow the transitions full product line, using the concentrate in the pm, and do laser two times per week. I read that you also use the micro points link. Can you use these if your hair loss is not yet stable? I wish you continued success and do appreciate all the information you supply on line. It is also refreshing that you help women realize that we can be beautiful. That help is out there. Thank you…

I have trichotillomania and would love to talk with other women who have self-image difficulties as a result of this condition.
